Current glass testing technologies can measure multiple properties of glass, covering the following specific aspects:

  1. Glass structure-related testing, which includes the identification of Low-E glass, the measurement of emissivity, and the measurement of the thickness of individual glass panes and each cavity;

  2. U Value/Heat Transfer Coefficient (K Value): On-site measurement for various types of insulating glass has now been realized (ordinary insulating glass, low-e insulating glass, triple pane low-e insulating glass);

  3. Optical and thermal parameters for glass: covering core indicators such as visible light transmittance (τv) and total solar energy transmittance g;

  4. Testing of argon content, which can be completed via a non-destructive method;

  5. Testing of glass color difference;

  6. Testing of tempered glass stress, which includes both qualitative identification and quantitative measurement, specifically covering the measurement of surface compressive stress and internal tensile stress.

Non-destructive operation for all the aforementioned performance tests has been achieved at engineering sites.

Can so many performance tests be carried out with a single instrument?

The answer is no. Such tests rely on a complete set of instrumentation. For instance, an argon analyzer is required for argon content testing, a stress meter for stress testing, and a colorimeter for color difference testing; while for the testing of glass optical and thermal performance, the GlasSmart1000 On-site Optical and Thermal Parameters Measuring System must be used.
